This bronze coin features Bruttia Crispina, wife of Emperor Commodus and Roman empress (Augusta) from 178 CE. On the obverse, her portrait appears with the legend CRISPINA AVGVSTA. The reverse depicts Juno Regina, veiled and holding a patera and sceptre, with the inscription IVNO REGINA S C, signifying the Senate’s authority. Crispina, from a distinguished senatorial family, was married to Commodus to strengthen dynastic ties. She later fell from favor and, accused of adultery, was exiled to Capri in 188 where she was later executed.
